What we collect when you apply and work with us, why, who sees it, how long we keep it, and your rights under the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019. In plain words.

Who we are
Egocentric Jobs, based in Kenya, finds and supports people who record everyday tasks for Verlet Robotics using the Verlet Ego app. For your application, onboarding and pay, we decide what personal data is collected and why, so under the Data Protection Act, 2019 we are the data controller.
Questions about your data go to us through the contact page, or the help page in your portal.
What we collect
- Your application: name, phone number, email, the area you live in, your phone model and camera, storage, the rooms and tasks you chose, your written answers and how you heard about us. Gender only if you choose to give it.
- Pay details: your M-PESA number and the name registered on it, your payouts and their M-PESA receipts.
- Onboarding: your training progress and quiz answers, a screenshot from our phone checker app if your phone needs one, your pickup booking, and the headband you hold.
- Your ID number: taken at the pickup desk to confirm it is you and that one person collects one headband. It is stored encrypted and only the pickup desk and administrators can see it.
- Recording hours: the hours of each recording you upload and its quality-check result, as reported to us from the recording app.
- Messages: texts and emails we send you, your replies, and questions you send us.
- Technical: the IP address a form was sent from, sign-in codes (stored scrambled, never readable), and a cookie that keeps you signed in to your portal.
Why we use it
- With your consent: to consider your application, and for the optional details you choose to give.
- To do what we agreed: to onboard you, set up your recording-app account, lend you a headband, count your hours and pay you.
- Because the law requires it: keeping records of payments.
- Legitimate interests: stopping fraud (one person, one account, one headband), keeping forms free of bots, and improving the training and the process.
Your recordings
The videos you record are uploaded through the Verlet Ego app to Verlet Robotics, which uses first-person video to teach robots how human hands work. We do not store your recordings; we receive the hours and quality results we need to pay you.
Record only your hands and the task. Never record children, other people's faces, ID cards, bank cards, or screens showing someone's personal information, and make sure the people you live with know you are recording.
Data outside Kenya
Some of these providers store or process data outside Kenya, for example in the European Union or the United States. We only transfer data as sections 48 to 50 of the Data Protection Act allow: to providers with proper data protection safeguards, over encrypted connections, and limited to what each one needs.
How long we keep it
- Applications we don't take forward (not accepted, or withdrawn): deleted 12 months after the decision.
- Phone checker screenshots: deleted as soon as they have been checked.
- While you work with us: what we need to onboard and pay you.
- Payment records: for as long as the law requires after you stop, then deleted.
Your rights
Under the Data Protection Act you can:
- be told how your data is used (this page);
- see the data we hold about you, and get a copy;
- have wrong or misleading data corrected, and data we no longer need deleted;
- object to a use of your data, and withdraw consent at any time (this doesn't undo what was done before);
- complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner.
To use any of these rights, contact us. You can update your email and M-PESA details yourself in your portal.
Keeping it safe
Everything travels over encrypted connections. ID numbers are encrypted, sign-in codes are scrambled and expire in minutes, staff see only what their job needs, and our database accepts connections only from our own servers.
Texts from us
We text you about your application, your next step, your pickup and your pay. Reply STOP to stop reminders; we will still send sign-in codes you ask for and messages about money we owe you.
Changes to this notice
If we change how we use your data, we update this page and its date, and tell you in your portal when the change matters to you.
